Support our national symbol.
Beloved in the hearts of all Belgians since 1958, the Atomium is the symbol of our country and illustrates a certain form of “Belgianness”.
We recently drew public attention to the financial situation of the non-profit association Atomium (which also manages the Design Museum Brussels) following the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of tourist visits.
A heritage jewel, the Atomium employs 44 people and receives no operating subsidies. It is almost 90% self-financing thanks to its own revenue.
The tourism recovery which promises to be very slow will cause serious operating difficulties for the most Belgian building in Brussels.
Unfortunately, since mid-March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the following lockdown, the Atomium has had very few visitors. Management has however taken numerous measures to limit the financial charges, nevertheless, the maintenance of the building and the financial commitments remain important.
Supported by a motivated and enthusiastic team, the Atomium reopened its doors on June 1st, ensuring all health safety measures for its staff and the public.
The stakes are high and the challenge is great. We have sought the support of public authorities, but to date, we still have not received a positive response. In these exceptional circumstances, we also call for solidarity and financial support from all those who cherish our heritage building, which is known around the world.
The Atomium needs you and your visit.
If you wish to provide financial support, the Atomium has opened an account with the King Baudouin Foundation to allow payments. The donation, tax-deductible for individuals and businesses, will be used for:
- the maintenance and structural renovation of the building,
- the support of our activities including beautiful exhibitions that will – hopefully - welcome an ever-growing audience.
The King Baudouin Foundation is collaborating on the project.
Donations from €40 per year made to the Foundation benefit from a tax reduction of 45% of the amount actually paid (art. 145/33 CIR).
Today more than ever, the Atomium needs you to perpetuate the magic that has been going on since 1958.
We thank you in advance.
