THE PROJECT

Originally built for the 1958 universal exhibitionWorld’s Fair, the Atomium is much more than a monument: It's a unique experience where science, heritage and history meet. With its spectacular silhouette of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, it has become the symbol of Brussels and Belgium.

  • Sphere I3 has two levels. Level I3- will be occupied by a new temporary digital art installation in 2026. The art work to be exhibited will be chosen by a jury following a call for projects. Level I3+ will be transformed into a flexible exhibition space using digital media (interactive screens, projections, etc.).
  • From 2026, the first floor of the Atomium will feature a permanent digital art installation visible from the outside. This installation will also be selected by a jury following a call for projects. The permanent exhibition will be redesigned for its 70th anniversary, with an emphasis on digital scenography.
  • The Atomium plans to develop several virtual applications in 2026 and 2028 to accompany the visit of its various target audiences.
