LOOK UP

A digital experience, immersing you in sound & light.

Light installation

Since 18/06/2024

Look Up transforms the lift of the Atomium. This unique monumental work, created by the artists' collective Visual System, transforms the emblematic lift into a light and sound experience.

Since 2023, the Atomium is fully committed to the digital dimension, dedicating its programming of exhibitions, installations and performances to this domain of artistic creation. It regularly gives carte blanche to artists who create immersive and original universes in the exhibition sphere. These projects, exploit the magic of the space and accentuate the building's heritage richness. Among the permanent works, visitors can also discover "Centrale", a sculpture of light and sound created by Visual System, which enhances the central sphere of the Atomium all year round.

With Look Up, Visual System, known for exploring the boundaries between reality and imagination, metamorphoses the interior of the 100-metre-high lift tube by sublimating each section with light, creating a work that is both monumental and minimalist, highlighting the singularity of the structure.

Visual System is a collective of multidisciplinary artists who since 2007 have been exploring the links between creative techniques and visual perception. It creates hypnotic immersive environments, with light and sound, that explore the relationship between space and time, nature and science, waking dreams and reality. Their installations, both permanent and temporary, allow the audience to move at their own pace to discover the spaces they walk through in a new light.

This installation is accompanied by an original musical creation by Thomas Vaquié, long-time composer for Visual System. His new album 'Slight Echo' compiles the soundtracks of the creations presented at the Atomium over the last decade. Enriched by texts by Stéphane Beauverger, the album explores the complex relationship between humanity and its inventions.
