ROTONDE
ROTONDE gives the Atomium a new nocturnal identity, animating the rotonde each evening with rhythm and movement.
Permanent installation visible from outside at nightfall
From 14/02/2026
The installation unfolds in a cycle of approximately twenty minutes. Light movements, vertical descents and variations in intensity are fully synchronized with an original sound composition made up of subtle rhythms, spatial textures and finely crafted transitions.
Some sequences are deliberately minimal, almost motionless; others introduce greater movement and contrast. The programming is designed to evolve calmly throughout the evening, establishing a continuous presence.
The project is conceived as a spatial composition, developed specifically for this part of the Atomium and for the visitors’ circulation. Light structures the space, highlights the lines of the building and amplifies its nocturnal presence, offering a new way to experience the architecture through movement and rhythm.
The installation is designed to accompany the life of the Atomium every evening. It gives the Atomium a nighttime identity, as a place that remains active, visible and inhabited after dark.
It is part of a broader ambition to bring architectural heritage to life through contemporary digital creation.
The installation offers a contemporary reading of the Atomium while placing its architecture at the very center.
Dirty Monitor is a Belgian studio active internationally, specializing in artistic installations that combine light, visual creation and architecture.
Since 2004, the studio has developed projects for major cultural institutions, public spaces and international events, adapting each intervention to the singularity of the site and its context.
Dirty Monitor approaches architecture as a working material and conceives its projects as spatial compositions designed for real use and long-term integration.
In 2025, Dirty Monitor designed the visitor experience of the Belgian Pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka, representing Belgium on the international stage through a contemporary architectural and artistic proposal.
The project developed at the Atomium is part of this continuity, linking two emblematic pavilions in Belgian history: Brussels 1958 and Osaka 2025. Through this installation, Dirty Monitor continues the narrative of the Belgian Pavilion in the present, activating the Atomium not only as a heritage site, but as a contemporary cultural expression.
The studio’s guiding principle remains constant: to enhance without altering.
