Did you know that the Atomium, created for the Expo 58, symbolized the democratic will to maintain peace among all nations and faith in progress? It embodied an optimistic vision of the future of a modern, new, super-technological world for a better life for mankind. And even today, the symbol of Brussels and Belgium continues to carry out these humanist values through its events and exhibitions.

That’s why while visiting our famous landmark, you will be able to rediscover the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through Spirou and 29 other comic book heroes.

Spirou was created 80 years ago by Robert Velter. The great Belgian comic strip hero is instantly recognizable in his red bellboy’s uniform and has always made a stand against tyranny. Defending values such as respect for others, justice, courage, generosity and liberty, the comic book hero is a perfect choice to be named Champion of Human Rights by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Especially for this celebratory anniversary of the Declaration, as it was created 70 years ago in the wake of the Second World War, to have a common standard of achievements for all peoples and nations and to set out the fundamental human rights that need to be universally protected.

Location

This exhibition is situated on levels 0 & 5 of the Atomium (groundfloor + Central Sphere).

Dates

From April 8th 2019 till Spring 2020.

Opening times

Daily, from 10am till 6pm (closure ticket office at 5.30pm).

Entrance fees

The access to the temporary exhibition is part of the visit of the Atomium and as a consequence there will be no extra costs.
