Physics for everyone

Discovery workshop from April 10th till April 16th • 11 am – 5.30 pm • Kids’ sphere

Experiments explain some scientific mysteries. Young and old can learn why there are seasons, why ducks float on the water and airplanes can fly, why the sunlight has a lot of different colours and why shadows aren’t always dark, and a lot of other things…

The experiments are presented in a very dynamic and easy way and are fascinating for young and old.

Designed by Philippe Jans (Physician – ULB) and Albert Art (Doctor in Physics – ULB) and realized with the technical help of Jamal Tahmaoui (Technician – ULB).

The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Applied Sciences faculty of the ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Earth Hour. Recharge the planet again!March 27th • 8.30pm-9.30pm • at the foot of the Atomium
The WWF organizes Earth Hour on Saturday 27 March 2010, from 8:30 pm until 9:30 pm. During 1 hour, one billion people around the world turn off the light simultaneously. The hour has to symbolically help the earth in the fight against global warming. The City of Brussels takes part by turning off the lights at the Grand-Place and the Atomium.

The event was first held in 2007 in Sydney. At that first edition, 2 million people took part. In 2009, 4000 cities and towns in 88 countries participated in the event. In Belgium, 193 cities and towns, 329 businesses and 500.000 households took part.

The City of Brussels joins the event again by turning off the light at the City Hall, the Grand-Place and the Atomium during one hour. A powerful act of the European capital in the fight against global warming.
